At Potomac Riverside Farm Boarding Stable, your horse will receive:

  • personal attention and professional care
  • maximum day-long turn out on well-maintained grass pastures (private turn out also available)
  • large, clean stalls
  • and regularly scheduled vet and farrier visits automatically managed and handled for your convenience with no extra expense to you for barn management services.

This is a very relaxed and independent environment. There is no pressure to take lessons but if you choose to, there are several instructors to choose from and your own instructor is welcome. We offer horse training and instruction in all disciplines including Dressage, Hunter jumper, Eventing, Problem solving horse training, Horsemanship, and Western. Trail riding, and Equine leasing is also available. You can bring a friend and rent one of our school horses so your friend can go riding with you along the C&O Canal.

Stall Boarding

Spacious stalls ranging from 14 feet by 14 feet to 13 feet by 12 feet. All stalls have windows, rubber mats, sawdust bedding, 2 water buckets, mineral blocks, fans, and fly spray system.

  • Unlimited, premium quality hay grown on the farm
  • 4 hot and cold water shower stalls with cross ties - you should never have to wait to wash off your horse
  • A tack room with large individual lockers
  • Feed room to keep your individual supplements
  • At your request, supplements or medications are added to your horse's feed at no additional charge
  • Minor medical attention is available and administered by a qualified manager
  • Blanket racks on every stall and blanketing provided on an as-needed basis
  • Fans circulate air throughout the entire barn for summer comfort
  • For your personal convenience, there is a Boarders' Club House with a nicely decorated lounge, TV, refrigerator, microwave, shower, dressing room, and private bathroom
  • A court yard with picnic area for you and your visiting friends and family to spend the day
  • Stall-boarded horses are given maximum day-long turn out. During the winter, horses are turned out 7:00 am and brought in by 4:00 pm. During the summer, they are turned out in the evening by 4:00 pm and brought back in the next morning by 7:00 am.

Horses are turned out in small groups of 4 or 5 and we take care to ensure that paddock groups are compatible.

 

Field Boarding

Your horse can also be field boarded in one of our 8 paddocks. The sizes of the paddocks range from 10 to 15 acres.

  • Field-boarded horses are also turned out in small groups ranging from only 3 horses in a field to a maximum of 6 horses in a field
  • Every field board horse is checked daily, looked over for cuts or injuries or medical problems
  • Every field has its own walk-in shelter large enough for 6 horses
  • Every field has a heated water trough in the winter - no need to worry about frozen water troughs
  • Field boarders receive all the same facility privileges as the stall boarders
  • There is a stall available for rental on a daily basis for injured or laid-up horses
  • Every horse is rotated between 2 fields to ensure good grazing pastures
